Insights for day 36 of 365:: Discover what it takes to be better than 99% of people

Discover what it takes to be better than 99% of people

I strongly believe we all want this year to be a successful year, and we also want to rise to our full potential. However, according to John C. Maxwell, our success stops where our character stops. And we never get to rise above the limitations of our character.

Character can mean alot things, but I will do my best to describe it so that it makes sense.
  • Character is the pre-decision to act right
  • Character is built daily in small decisions no one sees
  • Character is self-imposed discipline
  • Character is the commitment of oneself to a set of high standards (or values) without wavering or compromise
A person without character can say one thing, do another thing, and promise something else.

If we work on ourselves to have a great character, we can automatically be better than 99% of people. You know why?

It's because majority of people are focused on:
Trying to be someone else
Trying to outsmart others
Trying create a false impression of themselves
Trying to get something for nothing
Trying to reap where they have not sown
Trying to take what belongs to others
Trying to put others down or make others look small

Let face it, many people only act right or get things done properly:
Because of the recognition, acknowledgment, or validation, they will get.
Because of the praise, applause, or accolades, they will get.
Because of the boost they will receive to their self-image.
Because it makes them appear smart.
Because they want something in return.
Because they can brag with it, and
Because it makes a good story.

The person that gets the job done because it's his/her duty is the person that gets to be better than 99% of people.

People of character do a good job or act right when no one is watching, when they have nothing to gain, and because it's their duty.

People of character do more than is required. They even go the extra mile.

So you see! it's easy to be better than 99% of people, because most people are not willing to work on their character.

A great character will make you show up bigger and better than your reputation. The real experience of a person with character will never be a disappointment.

Here are a few insights on how a great character is developed::

1. Discipline:
Discipline helps us to develop our character. Discipline makes us to demand more of ourself more than anyone can demand of us

2. Follow purpose:
Follow the gift and assignment you were sent to serve to the world

3. Follow a cause:
Wake up every day for a cause. A cause that is bigger than you.

4. Authenticity:
Stop trying to be someone else.
There are so many people trying to win the battle of everyday life with someone else's weapon. Stay authentic.

Join me! You and I, let us get to work this year, developing our character:
One decision at a time
One choice at a time
One assignment at a time
One act at a time

And may we rise to our full potential, breaking every limit that our underdeveloped character has placed on us.

Cheers to developing a great character!
